March Fratdaddy of the Month

Confratulations to Powell Barrow of Virginia, the March 2010 Fratdaddy of the Month.  Here, Powell is fraternizing at the exclusive Colonnade Club on the Lawn, which you can tell is fratastic based on the scenery in the background.  Powell is wearing typical, fratty gameday attire and drinking a splash of fine bourbon to get prepared for the game.  Congrats again to Powell, who will receive an award of a free “winyah” polo, courtesy of Coast Apparel.

*** FRAT MADNESS 2010: 8s v. 9s ***

Alright, the 7s v. 10s are over, with North Carolina and Arkansas pulling “upsets” that were rather predictable.  College of Charleston and Baylor also took care of business.  Now, we have our last matchups before moving on to the 2nd round.

Fratty Countdowns: Fratty Vehicles #2

The Pledge Taxi

While the Number Two vehicle in our countdown is not actually a vehicle per se, it is as important a method of transportation as you will find in the fratmosphere.  The “pledge taxi” is defined as a vehicle used by a pledge to transport active members of a fraternity or sorority while those members are out frattabbing to the extreme.  Pledge taxis are usually Frathoe’s or other large, fratty SUV’s that can easily seat numerous fratdaddies and sorostitutes.

It is also important to understand the taxi element of our Number Two vehicle.  Like any reputable cab service, pledges, or “volunteers,” should be on call twenty-four hours per day to give rides to experienced fratdaddies and sorostitutes.  Hence, they operate much like a normal taxi company…minus the charge.  For example, if Eric is out frattabbing at a Fratty Establishment and he is ready to take his Plan A back to the fratcastle for some late-night activities, then Eric should call the Pledge Taxi to give him and said Plan A a ride from the Fratty Establishment to the fratcastle.  Otherwise, Eric might take a detour before arriving at the fratcastle, and his late-night activities will involve extreme cheek clinching.

It should be clear as to why the pledge taxi system deserves a spot in our fratty vehicles countdown.  The advantages are limitless:  you have your own personal driver, you can trash their Frathoe while you’re trashed, additional hazing opportunities, no crashed vehicle, no DUI, decrease the risk of a late-night rape from a guy in an orange jumpsuit, etc., etc., etc.  Congrats to the Pledge Taxi and remember the next time you’ve had too much tonic and Tanqueray, that a pledge in a Frathoe is just one call away.

*** FRAT MADNESS 2010: 7s v. 10s ***

In our last entry in this year’s tournament, Purdue withstood a strong challenge from Troy, while Oklahoma took out Memphis.  Regions 3 and 4 saw upsets, as Florida cruised past Ohio State like it was the 4th quarter and Southern Mississippi comfortably defeated North Carolina State.

And now, we get to the 7s v. 10s.

*** FRAT MADNESS 2010: 6s vs. 11s ***

12s upsetting 5s?  Not this year.  While Auburn, Mississippi State, and Virginia cruised, we had a strong tussle between SMU and Vandy, with the Dores holding the lead (albeit a slight one) for most of the day.  In the end though, the Mustangs pulled it out, and all 4 12 seeds went home.  Now, on to the 6′s and the 11′s.

Just to clarify…one more time…

I have said the following in comments several times…but just to make it clear:

1)  Eric and I picked zero schools.  Not one.  We went by nominations only.  If you are complaining about a school not being in the tournament, be sure to nominate them next year.  There were several schools that did not get a single nomination that we would have put in the tournament if we were making it up off the tops of our heads, but we wanted the bracket to be nomination-generated only.

2)  The same goes for seeds.  Schools with more nominations were seeded higher.  Sometimes, this generated predictable results.  Sometimes, it generated not-so-predictable results.  As in any tournament, however, these things usually work themselves out in the end.

*** FRAT MADNESS 2010 – 5 vs. 12′s ***

After a weekend break, we’re back to it in the 2010 FRAT MADNESS TOURNAMENT.  Our 4 vs. 13 matchups saw Cornell take down Indiana, making the Ivy League 2-0 thus far.  Georgia Tech also took down highly favored Tennessee, while Texas A&M breezed past Arkansas State.  LSU had a huge challenge from Miami (OH), but the Bengal Tigers pulled away in the end.  Now, on to our 5 vs. 12 matchups…these are known for upsets in the real tournament…will the same hold true here?

*** FRAT MADNESS 2010 – 4s vs. 13s ***

We have had our first upset, as 14th seeded Dartmouth took down 3rd seeded Texas Tech.  Meanwhile, Florida State, Missouri, and South Carolina breezed through, with the Gamecocks having an especially easy go of it against James Madison.  And now, it’s on to the 4s vs. 13s…

*** FRAT MADNESS 2010 – 3s vs. 14s ***

Once again, no love for the underdogs in the 2s vs. 15s matchup.  Washington and Lee, Texas, Texas Christian, and Clemson all breezed through to the round of 32.   As we go down the bracket, will the heat on the favorites turn up a notch? We shall see. Get your vote in now for the frattiest school below.
