  6. RAGER on February 8, 2010 8:57 pm

If you need help and pointers, you are not frat, but trying too hard.

  7. Robert E. Lee on February 9, 2010 1:55 am

Rager, don’t be ridiculous. Everyone needs pointers now and then. Those of you whom leave negative commentary on this website, you are wasting your time. Keep updating and continue increasing the proper knowledge of fratdaddies everywhere!

They are quite amazing and have been around since 1912. I would recommend them to anyone seeking any type of fratty rain attire.

  9. Doug Neidermeyer on February 9, 2010 3:24 am

I own a pair of LL Bean duckboots myself, and I highly recommend them. I’ve had the same pair for years and you literally can not kill them.

How important is being in a fraternity for being “fratty”? I come from a Southern Carolina family and I never pledged a fraternity because I had a solid group of friends because I’m on the varsity squash and sailing teams, and because I was juggling a part time internship at Goldman Sachs so I didn’t have that much time to pledge.

“How important is being in a fraternity for being ‘fratty’?”

Necessary, if one is to reach true fratdaddy status.

But that does not mean that one should not try to learn lessons from fratdaddies on life, love, and talking your way out of a DUI checkpoint.

  14. FRATTYLAX,BRO on February 10, 2010 5:14 am

Well , I am sorry but the Duck boots are not considered hunting, nor rain boots on the L.L.BEAN website they are in the group BEAN boots, so you can use them for either but unlike Timberlands , Duck boots are for Rain or Field activities and not to be worn causualy

@UGA Duck boots are technically made for field wear just as tweed coats and corduroy were initially. But there is a tradition in taking field (hunting) clothes and mixing it in with other slightly more formal (what used to be called casual) attire. It has to be okay for the surroundings and the weather of course. What it says is that you are the kind of person who in a humble and non-conspicuous way try to integrate your love of the outdoors into your everyday life. It is like having a hand carved mallard decoy on display at your home or office.

A couple of days ago when it was cold and rainy I had on an oilcloth jacket, a sweater over a tattersal shirt, a woven tie, jeans and duck boots. I had a bunch of errands and I had to see a few people. That outfit might not be different (sans the tie) if I was I was wing-shooting or training a puppy to retrieve.

It probably isn’t a good idea just to buy these boots because you see somebody wearing them but you could say that about the whole “fratty” thing.

@Fratty Some guys I know that would be described by many as “fratty” weren’t technically Greek due to their chapter or recolonization being shut down, or getting in trouble or some other mess. Some others are members of non-Greek letter private or underground groups. Some just didn’t like the options available or whatever. (A few alum now help out so much with my own fraternity they are virtually members, and I have considered looking up honorary stuff or what not.) And as well all know there are plenty of guys in GLO’s who are not “fratty”.

Just do all you can to uphold fratty standards and frattiness will be with you.

A real frat daddy doesn’t use twitter

  18. SirFratsalot on February 11, 2010 5:20 pm

“It is like having a hand carved mallard decoy on display at your home or office.”

Said mallard also should be devoid of listening devices.

Sweet name “SirFratsAlot”. Go back to the north!

  20. FratTexas on February 13, 2010 1:37 am

    Twitter is not fratty period.

  21. Clayton on February 22, 2010 9:57 pm

I love my Bean Duck Boots. When it’s pouring, I sure as hell don’t want to wear good loafers or my Lucchese’s. Whenever I try to wear regular workboots’ I feel like I should be looking for a ditch to dig.
Wear my duck boots regularly for dove hunting to keep my feet dry in the AM…
Hey UGA Beer guy… thanks for keeping the sport classy, Sir!

  22. Bankster on February 26, 2010 2:21 am

Just went to the bean by me me to replace a pair after 5 years of service and was shown a pic of new ones with canvas upper not leather, they looked pretty cool i’ll be picking up a pair

  23. Clayton on February 27, 2010 10:28 pm

Never seen canvas uppers? I would just be concerned with whether they’re still waterproof. By the way, Kevin’s was having a sale on damn fine upland hunting boots and a bunch of other stuff. I bought a pair of Zephyr’s there a few years ago that I love and my buddy is a regular customer and just filled me in…
