…and then there were 8. Two rounds are down in the 2008 Frat Madness tournament, and 25 fratty items/activities have fallen by the wayside. Some of them we knew would go home early. Others were sent packing even though we thought they might have the potential to make the final four.
In the Clothing Region, reigning champion Costas and Croakies has not met a substantial challenge in either of its matchups so far. after crushing the play-in contestant, C&C cruised to victory over gameday tie with 73% of the vote. I privately predicted to Prof. Stratton that gameday tie would at least make this interesting…apparently, I mistook the power that C&C still has. It will truly be a battle of the titans in for the clothing region title, as Polo Shirt attempts to do this year what it couldn’t do last year, as this is a REMATCH from last year’s Elite 8.
In the Food/Drink Region, Bourbon and Coke has proved to be even more dominant than C&C. 90% of you voted for it in the last round, and thought Grilling out pulled an upset over #2 ranked Natty Lite (who made it to round 3 to face bourbon and coke last year), it’s hard for us to see anyone in this bracket getting close to the king of all fratty cocktails. Will we be wrong again?
In the Party Region, Formal/Cocktail seems the weakest of the #1 seeds, beating its second round opponent with 68% of the vote, the lowest percentage of any top ranked team. But let’s look at this a little closer…68%, although low compared to the other top seeds, is still fairly dominant…and most importantly, Formal/Cocktail’s second round match was Crawfish Boil, the one side that we thought might have a chance to mount a challenge to a #1 seed (and, I thought, one of the most underrated teams in the tournament). Perhaps the fact that Formal/Cocktail got almost 70% of the vote against such a good team is really a show of strength. It now faces another Elite 8 rematch from 2007, as Open Bar tries again to advance to the Final 4.
Last year, Hazing made it to the finals as a lower seed…so this year they got the top seed in the miscellaneous region, and the result has been the same. They will face the winner of the closest, by far, round 2 matchup. Shacking edged out golf by a 53 to 47 percent margin, denying us the Hazing vs. Golf rematch from ‘07. I’m glad of that, however, as I think this is, by far, the most intriguing match of Round 3. I would not be surprised at all if this one comes down to the wire.
Keep a watch on FrattingHard.com, as the Round 3 matchups will all be posted together very soon.
